CANYON CITY – A man who fled police custody and crossed the John Day River on foot last month will spend even more time in jail and pay a hefty fine, according to Grant County Circuit Court documents. Davids Wesley Burke, 31, pleaded guilty to Criminal Driving While Suspended or Revoked and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer in one case; and Failure to Appear in the Second Degree in another case.

Burke was sentenced to a total of 60 days in jail and ordered to pay a $2,000 traffic fine. That jail time will run consecutively to a 110-day jail sentence from other cases, totaling 170 days of incarceration.

Two counts were discharged, and one count was disposed with no conviction.
