MT. VERNON – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley has informed our newsroom that the pursuit of a suspect in the Moon Creek area west of Mt. Vernon yesterday ended with the suspect in custody.
The Sheriff explained that in the later morning hours of January 26th, David Wesley Burke fled a traffic stop initiated by Oregon State Police between mileposts 147 and 148 on U.S. Highway 26 in Grant County. Burke fled on foot, crossed through the John Day River, went into the brush, and was apprehended by law enforcement shortly thereafter. Both OSP and GCSO responded. Sheriff McKinley said there is no danger to the public and Burke is in custody. Nothing further has been released.
