Time in Grant County Jail for man guilty of criminal driving charges

CANYON CITY – A man will spend several months in jail and pay thousands of dollars following conviction to multiple criminal driving charges.

David Wesley Burke, 32, pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Driving While Suspended or Revoked, committed on or about September 24th, 2025. Burke also entered guilty pleas for Violating an Ignition Interlock Device Installation Condition and another count of Criminal Driving While Suspended or Revoked, occurring on or about September 13th, 2025.

Burke was sentenced to a total of 110 days in the Grant County Jail and ordered to pay $6,440 in traffic fines. Those guilty pleas were entered on November 10th, 2025.

In addition, on January 26th, 2026, Burke fled a traffic stop initiated by Oregon State Police between mileposts 147 and 148 on U.S. Highway 26 in the Moon Creek area of Grant County. Burke fled on foot, crossed through the John Day River, went into the brush, and was apprehended by law enforcement shortly thereafter.
