UNION COUNTY — If you want to keep it, protect it.

That’s the message from the Union County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) as it’s reporting an increase in thefts.

According to a post from the UCSO on Facebook, “We had an increase in theft reports in March. Please do not leave valuables inside your vehicle. Also, having cameras installed outside your home may not deter thieves, but it does help law enforcement if a crime is committed. Watch for suspicious activity and call law enforcement if something doesn’t look right: 541-963-1017.”

The UCSO says the increase in thefts also includes Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, hitting home the message of not leaving valuables inside your vehicles.

The Baker City Police Department also recently warned residents of an uptick in vehicle break-ins.
