UMATILLA COUNTY – Umatilla County Commissioner Cindy Timmons said that there were a total of three petitions to recall Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan filed with the Elections Division, but all three are no longer active.

Two of the petitions were withdrawn by the people filing them. As for the third, enough signatures to put it on the ballot were not submitted.

“There’s a certain timeline that you have to get enough signatures,” Timmons said. “That didn’t happen. The time came and went.”

The recall petitions were filed after the sheriff was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants on May 16. Stories regarding the case can be found at Rowan pleads no contest to DUII charge – Elkhorn Media Group and State approves 2nd diversion agreement for Rowan – Elkhorn Media Group.
