PENDLETON – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office has released audio from the 911 call Sunday that resulted in a deputy shooting a chimpanzee who had attacked the property owner’s adult daughter.
The owner, Tamara Brogoitti, reported her daughter was bleeding profusely, She and the daughter were locked in the basement of the home, cornered by the chimp. Early in the call she said that the deputy would need to put the chimpanzee down, and then suggested sending more than one officer to handle the animal.
“Send more than one because if the ape gets the drop on him, he’s gone too,” Brogoitti said. “He’s got to be put down. They’ve got to do a head shot on the ape. Don’t say, ‘Oh it’s cute,’ or ‘Come here.’ It will attack them.”
The chimpanzee was killed by a gunshot to the head.
