Youth responsible for Central Building Fire in Baker City sentenced to Oregon Youth Authority Custody

BAKER CITY — (Release from the Baker County District Attorney’s Office) On October 31 and November 1, 2024, Judge Matthew B. Shirtcliff sentenced two juveniles to the care and custody of the Oregon Youth Authority for their role in a number of crimes, including setting the fire that resulted in the destruction of the Baker Technical Institute’s Central Building. The two juveniles will be under the custody of OYA for the maximum length of time for a juvenile, which is 25 years of age. Both juveniles were sentenced to an OYA facility for an indefinite period of time. They were also ordered to abide by multiple conditions, including being ordered to pay restitution.
The cases of a third juvenile are still proceeding through the juvenile court.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to thank the Oregon State Police, Baker City Police Department, Baker County Sheriff’s Office, the Juvenile Department, and all of the other agencies that helped investigate these crimes.
