Youth Conservation Corps is now hiring

PENDLETON – The Umatilla National Forest’s Pomeroy Ranger District in Washington state is recruiting four to six students aged 15-18 for summer jobs in the Youth Conservation Corps. The program lasts six to eight weeks and those hired are paid Washington’s minimum wage.

The young people must live in the local area. Non-local applicants with a parent or legal guardian in the local commuting area are also eligible. No experience is required. No housing or transportation is provided. Work can include noxious weed removal, fence removal and construction, recreation and trail maintenance, fuel monitoring, and vegetation surveys.

All candidates must complete and submit a signed application. Hard-copy applications are available at the Pomeroy Ranger District office and at Pomeroy High school. The application is also available online at https://www.nps.gov/subjects/youthprograms/upload/DI-4014-YCC-Application-Form.pdf. The deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. March 29.

All applicants will be notified by email or telephone of their selection status no later than April 12. Completed applications may be emailed to tara.mackleit@usda.gov or delivered to the district office, 71 West Main Street, Pomeroy between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
