PENDLETON(News release from Oregon East Symphony) The Oregon East Symphony has received a $5000 grant from the Wildhorse Foundation to support its Private Lesson Tuition Assistance program. OES offers private lesson tuition assistance to string (violin, viola, cello, bass) who would like to further their studies with a teaching artist from the ranks of the OES’s orchestra but lack the financial means to fully afford lessons. Students who are accepted into the program are expected to participate in one of OES’s preparatory orchestras – the beginner level Preludes Orchestra or the intermediate level OES Youth Orchestra.

Private Lesson Tuition Assistance and OES’s preparatory orchestras are some of the many components of Playing for Keeps, OES’s classical music education program for rural youth with a heavy emphasis on string instruments.

Additional PFK activities include the Symphony Strings beginning strings after school program, the Youth Chamber Collective, a Music Theory and Composition Course, the audition based Raising the Bar program, educational concerts, workshops presented by OES guest soloists, an instrument lending library and free concert tickets for students.
