WALLA WALLA COUNTY – Registration is now open for boaters ages 12 and older to attend free Adventures in Boating classes. There are two classes to choose from Saturday, April 30 at Fire Station No. 51, 460 W. Humorist Rd. in Burbank and Saturday, May 14 at Fire Station No. 41, 2251 Howard St., Walla Walla. Both classes start at 9 a.m.
Chief Deputy Richard Schram with the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office is a state-certified boating instructor and will be teaching the classes so boaters can receive their mandatory boater education card from Washington State Parks. State law requires anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1955, operating a vessel of 15 horsepower or more, to have a boater education card that they must carry the card on the vessel and have available for inspection by law enforcement officers.
People are not required to have a state driver’s license to obtain a boater education card. Therefore, boaters 12 years of age and older are eligible. Possession of a boater education card is proof that the holder has successfully completed all the components of an approved boating safety course. The boating education card or certificate does not expire and does not need to be renewed. Seating for either class is limited and is on a first-come first-served basis.
To reserve a seat email Schram at RSchram@co.walla-walla.wa.us and a return email will be sent to confirm your spot in a class.
