WALLA WALLA – After nearly a decade at the helm of Walla Walla Public Schools, Superintendent Wade Smith has informed the school board of his decision to step down at the end of the school year, effective June 30.

Smith has accepted a consulting position with a firm specializing in educational capital planning and professional services and will remain in Walla Walla. He said serving the Walla Walla community over the past nine years has been one of the most rewarding roles of his professional career.

“Our successes include closing achievements and graduation gaps, passing a historic bond and capital levy, enhancing numerous student programs, implementing two strategic plans, demonstrating sound financial management, and strengthening partnerships with families and stakeholders,” Smith said.

The board has two meetings scheduled this week to select a consultant to lead the search for a new superintendent, after which the public input process will begin.
