WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools will return elementary and middle school students to their classrooms for full-time, in-person instruction on Monday, April 26. High school students will remain using the AM/PM hybrid schedule for the rest of the school year.
Superintendent Wade Smith said the schools would begin communicating with flyers yesterday (Wednesday) about the reopening plan for elementary students. Middle school students received mailings and school messenger calls yesterday as well.
“Transportation information and routes are being finalized this week and will be available on Monday, April 19 via our Traversa Ride 360 website or by contacting either the (WWPS) Transportation Department or the school directly,” Smith said.
Students in all returning grades may bring lunch from home if they wish. Free school grab-and-go lunches will continue to be available. Schools will practice safe social distancing procedures during lunch.
Schools are returning to their pre-pandemic start and end times. At the elementary level that’s from 8 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. with an early release on Wednesdays at 1:40 p.m. Middle school classes will be in session from 8:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an early release at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
At the middle school level, sports and activities will be available. Registration details are not yet released. Camp Fire Walla Walla will offer after-school childcare for elementary students beginning April 26. The 21st Century Afterschool program will begin registering students on April 26 and will begin programming on May 3.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure a smooth, safe, and successful transition,” Smith said. “We appreciate the support of our families, students, staff, and community as we crest this significant milestone of the pandemic.”
