WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Public Schools report police responded Friday at 7:15 a.m. to a man talking on his cell phone with a handgun holstered on his belt. The man was seen walking down Abbot Road heading towards Fern Avenue near Walla Walla High School.
Police arrived on scene immediately, however, the man was no longer in the vicinity. Officers declared the area safe to conduct school as normal.
The Walla Walla Police Department informed school officials it is legal in the state of Washington to carry a handgun on a belt off school grounds with proper permits. The district said it appreciates the individual who reported this as it aligns with the district’s see something, hear something, say something procedures.
