WWPD officer and suspect injured Saturday during investigation near Pioneer Park

WALLA WALLA, Washington – Officers from the Walla Walla Police Department responded to the area of Pioneer Park Saturday night for a report of a suspect pointing a gun at a group of juveniles.

It happened at around 8:30 p.m. and according to a post on the WWPD’s Facebook page, officers located the suspect’s vehicle in the 1100 block of Whitman Street and contacted five individuals inside the vehicle.

According to police, one of the vehicle’s male occupants struck an officer in the face with a closed fist during the course of the investigation which caused injury to the officer.  In response, police deployed a Taser on the subject, who was arrested for third-degree assault.  The suspect received minor injuries.

A search of the vehicle was later conducted under the authority of a search warrant. As a result, a replica gun that unfolds into a knife was recovered from inside the vehicle.

No other details has been released, however, the WWPD said this is an on-going investigation.
