WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office will be teaching two separate classes giving attendees the opportunity to receive their mandatory boater education card from Washington State Parks. The classes will be taught by state certified boating instructor and Chief Deputy Richard Schram.
The first class will be held Saturday, April 15 at Fire Station 51, 460 West Humorist Road in Burbank. The second class will be held Saturday, May 13 at Fire Station 41, 2251 Howard Street in Walla Walla. Both classes begin at 9 a.m.
In Washington, anyone who was born on or after January 1, 1955, who operates a vessel of 15 horsepower or more, is required to have a boater education card. This card must be carried on board the vessel and be presented for inspection when requested by an enforcement officer.
The boater education card is proof of successful completion of an approved boater safety course and allows the card holder to legally go boating. Recognized by other states, the Washington boater education card does not expire and does not need to be renewed.
Anyone interested in attending the boater education classes must email Chief Deputy Schram at RSchram@co.walla-walla.wa.us to reserve a seat. Seating is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis. A return email will be sent to confirm a spot in the class.
