WALLA WALLA – Due to the extreme heat, the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health recommends residents seek temporary relief from the heat at a community cooling center.
The community dining room at the Christian Aid Center, 202 W. Birch St., will be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. for guests and non-guests throughout the heat wave. The air-conditioned space will have bottled water available.
The Walla Walla Public Library, 238 E. Alder Street, will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no limit on visit time.
Blue Mountain Action Council, 8 E. Cherry St., is available by appointment during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will have bottled water available during the noon hour. BMAC’s phone number is 509-529-4980.
The Sleeping Center, 1181 W. Rees Ave., will also have water available. Plans are underway to add misters and make cooling cloths available.
On Friday, Governor Jay Inslee removed COVID-related capacity limits at publicly owned and operated, and non-profit cooling centers. All drinking fountains within city parks/facilities are also now open.
