WALLA WALLA, Washington – The Walla Walla City Council will consider modifying the proposed annexation boundary near Walla Walla High School at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. The annexation request comes from property owners of the land located east of Fern Avenue.
The area within this annexation was part of the proposed Wallowa Drive annexation that the council considered on February 27. At that meeting, council voted to proceed with an annexation as identified in the petition and not modify the boundary. As a result, the property owners along Carmella Street and Walts Lane submitted their own annexation petition for city council consideration.
City staff provided an early notice to the Board of County Commissioners and other county departments, and utilities on May 24 via email specifying a proposed modified boundary. That notice also added that the city council would consider the annexation petition Monday night. City staff similarly provided notice to property owners within the proposed modified boundary as well as adjacent property owners on the same date.
The council will determine whether to accept, reject, or geographically modify the proposed annexation. Other questions that need to be answered include whether the annexed territory will be assigned a zoning designation consistent with the land-use designation identified in the Walla Walla Comprehensive Plan – Walla Walla 2040,
The city staff recommendation is that council adopt the resolution that modifies the annexation boundary. The council will also vote on scheduling a hearing on the Wallowa Drive annexation at its July 24 meeting.
