WALLA WALLA – Four members of the Walla Walla Fire Department departed at 6 a.m. Thursday to assist in the active fires burning in Southern California.
Paul Renwick, Derrick Schoessler, Justin Elsom, and Bailey Lesko will be on a 14-day work assisgnment, with two travel days down and two travel days home, for a total of 18 days.
The four members of WWFD are part of the Southeast Washington Strike Team, along with crews from Walla Walla County Fire Districts No. 4 and 5, Pasco Fire Department, and Benton County Fire Districts No. 1 and 4.
Overall, the state of Washington has deployed seven strike teams and one task force of engines, totally more than 150 firefighters.
