KENNEWICK – The Washington State Patrol is seeing an increase in abandoned junk vehicles on highways, especially in the Tri-Cities area.
Trooper Chris Thorson reminds owners that they have two options – take the vehicle to a scrap processing plant or take it to a wrecking yard for proper disposal.
If the vehicle’s owner fails to do so, there are consequences for abandoning the vehicle.
“We are going to be searching for whoever the last registered owner is and holding them responsible for the charges to remove the vehicle,” he said.
Thorson recalled someone recently abandoned an auto hauler trailer along State Route 14 near Paterson. He adds that WSP junk vehicles that are over three years old, have extensive damage, and are not operational or working.
