WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners approved Monday accepting an offer from the Washington State Department of Transportation for right-of-way acquisition on a portion of US 730 to prevent rockfalls.

However, WSDOT states the project is on hold due to funding.

“The easement is essential for this project to progress once funding becomes available,” WSDOT South Central Regional Communications Manager Meagan Lott said.

Lott said WSDOT will know more after the legislative session and once Gov. Rob Ferguson signs the budget in late April.

Currently, this project isn’t scheduled to start until summer 2028.

“The project will remove loose debris from the slopes above US 730 and install netting and permanent ground anchors to secure the slope,” Lott explained.

The project area is located about four miles north of the Oregon border on US 730 between milepost 3 and 4.
