BAKER COUNTY – ODOT, in conjunction with Oregon State Police, managed to stop a semi-truck driving the wrong way on I-84 North of Baker City early Monday Morning.
At around 1:17 a.m., OSP received a report of a white freightliner and trailer driving Eastbound in the Westbound lanes on I-84. Crews from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) were able to stop the truck near milepost 296 before an accident occurred, with OSP subsequently taking over and arresting the driver. An official summary of events, as provided by OSP in a recent press log, is as follows:
“On the above mentioned date and time, a CMV was traveling EB in the WB lanes near MP 296 on 1-84. ODOT was able to stop the CMV prior to a collision and a Trooper arrived on scene and interviewed the driver. Indicators of impairment were observed and the driver consented to SFST’s where additional indicators were observed. The driver was arrested and transported to the BCJ where he provided a BAC of 0.00%. A urine sample was obtained and a DRE responded to evaluate the driver. The driver was lodged on the listed crimes and the CMV was towed by Roadrunner Towing.”
The driver, a 53-year-old North Dakota man, was charged with Reckless Driving, DUII – Intoxicants and controlled Substance, Reckless Endangering Person, and Possession of Weapon by Felon.
