Wrong-way driver hits trooper on U.S. 395

KENNEWICK – Washington State Patrol Trooper, Anselmo A. Sanchez, 28 of Kennewick, escaped injury after his patrol vehicle was hit early Tuesday morning in Kennewick by a wrong-way driver.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. while the trooper tried to stop Jeremy S. Santo, 45, of Pasco, from driving the wrong way on U.S. 395 at Kennewick Avenue.

Santo, who was allegedly driving under the influence, was injured and taken to a local hospital. Charges are pending against him.

The trooper was evaluated and released with no injuries requiring treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled and the incident is under investigation.
