BAKER COUNTY – The Baker County Safe Community Coalitions (BCSCC) is looking for hosts for more Sharing Pantries. According to BCSCC, funding from the Local Community Health Partnership, will make another Sharing Pantry possible this year, but now they are looking for a location.
Ideal locations include neighborhoods where there is not currently a pantry. Locations should be easy for the public to access from a street or sidewalk and would be welcome in outer lying areas in Baker County such as Richland, Unity, Sumpter, Halfway or Huntington.
Costs for materials, labor and installation of the new Sharing Pantry are covered.
According to BCSCC, “Brick & mortar Food banks have limited hours and capacity. The Sharing Pantry is a safety net to support immediate needs. Anyone may access a Sharing Pantry at any time. Whether you are giving or taking, everyone approaches the Sharing Pantry the same way, mediating the shame that accompanies need.
Sharing Pantry’s are a reminder of our neighbors’ need that creates neighborhood space for exercising compassion, trust, and mutual aid.”
