UNION/UMATILLA COUNTIES – Work on I-84 from MP 241.0 to MP 248.5 in the Meacham/Spring Creek area continued this week after weather slowed progress down last week.  According to ODOT, the switch to having opposing traffic separated by surface mounted orange tubular markers on what is normally the WB side of the freeway took place Monday afternoon.

ODOT notes that “there will be 2 lanes WB for the steep grade between approximate MP 248 and MP 246 to allow a passing opportunity.  Everywhere else will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.  There will be a couple of emergency turnouts available each direction to allow for disabled vehicles to pull off once the switch takes place.”

Work on the closed EB side of the freeway will began yesterday with removal of existing asphalt in the slow lane where new concrete pavement will be constructed.

The posted speed limit both directions is now 50 MPH through the work zone so please slow down and plan extra time.  Oregon State Police (OSP) will have an increased presence at times to help keep the work zone safe for everyone.
