SUMPTER – Work is set to begin today on a number of projects at the Sumpter Valley Railroad. Last year, the railroad was awarded $45,000 in funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the general fund budget and Lottery Bond sales.
The Sumpter Valley Railroad was one of four projects to receive funds in Baker County. A few of the projects for the railroad include:
-Roof replacement on three structures
-ADA access upgrades to the platform at McEwen and the deck at Sumpter Depot
-Creating a shade/cover for the open train cars
Roof replacements are set to start today with other projects planned for later in the year when the snow has melted.
