PENDLETON – Pendleton Public Works Director Bob Patterson said that a very civil discussion was held at Tuesday’s city council work session regarding allowing ride service companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in Pendleton. He said he’s optimistic that an agreement will be reached.

“We’re pulling together a work group to come back with a compromise proposal and look at the ordinance and see where this level of service can fit in,” he said.

Representatives supporting allowing Uber and other companies to operate will join representatives from Elite Taxi and city staff members to form the work group.

Meanwhile, Patterson said the city reached out to cities who have experienced similar situations, like Grants Pass.

“They basically have allowed those operators in their city and have found that it didn’t really impact the taxi side of service,” he said.

Patterson believes the council will revisit the issue in March or early April.
