Woodinville, WA man killed, driver injured after car goes off I-84 in Pendleton

PENDLETON – One person was killed and another seriously injured when their vehicle crashed and became engulfed in flames after leaving Interstate 84 near exit 209 and landing on U.S. 395/Southgate in Pendleton.

According to an Oregon State Police report, a Honda CR-V driven by Jeffrey McGowan, 51, of Woodinville, Washington, entered the median for an unknown reason and became airborne, before landing on Southgate and catching fire.

First responders were able to extricate Jeffrey McGowan, who was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. There has been no update on his condition.

The passenger, Riley McGowan, 21, also of Woodinville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic on Southgate and Interstate 84 was impacted during the initial response and subsequent investigation. The Pendleton Police Department, Pendleton Fire and Ambulance, and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
