Woodgrain inc. in La Grande fined over $15,000 by Oregon DEQ for air quality violation

LA GRANDE – The Oregon Department of Environmental quality recently issued seven penalties for the month of August, totaling $105,755 dollars. Among them, Woodgrain Inc. in La Grande was fine $15,600 for a reported air quality violation. Specifically, the company was penalized for “failing to reduce methanol emissions as required,” according to the DEQ. The fine was issued on August 19, 2025.
Methanol is described by the National Library of Medicine as a, “colorless fairly volatile liquid with a faintly sweet pungent odor,” and slightly heavier than air vapors. It is listed as being commonly used as an industrial solvent, component in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, and as an antifreeze ingredient, among other purposes.
