LA GRANDE – (Release from Eastern Oregon University) The Cascade Collegiate Conference announced the results of the 2022-23 CCC Women’s Wrestling Preseason Poll on Thursday morning, Oct. 13. The Mountaineers who finished fourth at the CCC Championships a season ago enter the upcoming campaign ranked fourth in the conference.

“My expectations are high for this season,” new Head Coach Mhar Caballa said. “With three returning All-Americans (2021-22) and a tough freshman class, these women are going to make themselves known.”

Eastern Oregon Women’s Wrestling enters year seven as a varsity program and will be under the direction of Interim Head Coach Mhar Caballa who was named the program’s fourth ever head coach this fall. Caballa will enter his first year as a head coach previously serving as an assistant with the Eastern Oregon Men’s Wrestling Team. Caballa helped lead the men’s team to its most successful season ever winning the team’s first CCC Championship a year ago. During his time as an assistant Caballa helped produce four NAIA All-Americans and 17 National Qualifiers.

“I am excited to be stepping in this new role and leading this program. I want to thank Anji for the opportunity,” Caballa said.

Eastern Oregon returned to the mat in 2021-22 and put together its best performance as a program to date. The Mounties battled to a No. 10 finish at the NAIA National Invite with 10 national qualifiers. Leading the way for EOU was Olivia Robinson who finished as the NAIA National Runner-Up, tying the program record for the highest finish in program history with her current teammate Erin Redford.

The Mountaineers enter the 2022-23 season loaded with talent bringing back four former All-Americans including Robinson. The other two returning All-Americans from a year ago, Kaylee Moore and Morgan Shines, will join former NAIA National Runner-Up Erin Redford in helping lead an experienced team back to the National tournament.

EOU Women’s Wrestling will start off the season at home with their annual Mountaineer Open on Nov. 6. The all-day tournament will be held in Quinn Coliseum
