MORROW COUNTY – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed a wolf or wolves in Morrow County attacked and killed a 3-month-old calf on March 26.

The depredation occurred on private land in the Balm Creek area of the county.

A new area of known wolf activity (AKWA) was documented by ODFW in 2022, when a radio-collared female wolf dispersed from the Columbia Pack in Washington and entered Oregon. Since June 2022, her movements indicate she has become a resident in southwestern Morrow County, traveling with another wolf. Two wolves were documented in the WA-123 group during the count this winter.

Wolves in Morrow County are currently listed as endangered under the Federal Endangered Species Act. All management related to the harassment and taking of wolves west of Highway 395 is regulated by the U.S. Fish And Wildlife Service.
