Witnesses report seeing people leave abandoned home after fire started

PASCO – The Pasco Fire Department responded early Thursday morning to a fire at an abandoned home on the 600 block of Clark Street. Witnesses reported seeing a few people leave the home at the time the fire started which was shortly after 4 a.m.

Neighbors told firefighters nobody was living in the house, but that homeless people were known to break into it. Firefighters entered the home and found nobody inside.

According to Ben Shearer of the Pasco Fire Department, a firefighter experienced a minor medical issue. The firefighter was evaluated on scene then transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.

“The firefighter is fine and went home to rest at the end of the shift,” Shearer said.

Fire investigators are not immediately aware of where the fire started or what caused it.
