WALLA WALLA – A band performing in downtown Walla Walla suffered a brief interruption when one of its members was hit by a piece of stage equipment Saturday night. Fortunately, the injury was minor.
The blues band, Big Font, was on the stage when a wind gust caused a metal support pole to blow over. Nobody else was injured and the injured band member was not taken to the hospital, according to the Walla Walla Fire Department.
Concert organizers from the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation said the stage did not collapse after rumors of such an incident began circulating on social media Saturday night.
“We’re grateful that everyone was safe. The equipment in question was lowered and weighted down to prevent any additional risk, and the later band played as scheduled,” Executive Director Kathryn Witherington said.
The Summer Concert Series runs every Saturday night through September 11 and is held in First Avenue Plaza. Featuring two bands, the concert starts at 5 p.m.
