HUNTINGTON – UPDATE – 1:05pm: A Message from the City of Huntington:
I have just spoken with Chief Bronson regarding the fire. At this time 152 acres have been affected. The fire started off of 5th street and burned to the edge of the Barber Ranch. It is contained at this time but will not be fully controlled or out for another day or two. No homes were lost although a fence and storage container did suffer some damage. One volunteer firefighter had a minor injury and is being checked out. Other than that, everyone is fine. The cause of the fire is unknown.
We would like to express our appreciation and utmost gratitude to our excellent volunteer fire department for their tireless efforts in keeping our little hamlet safe. We would also like to thank the community volunteers who have brought water and other things to the firefighters. And to the BLM and the Burnt River Rural Fire Protection Association for their invaluable assistance in fighting the fire.
As of now ALL burning is prohibited until further notice. This includes burn barrels. With this extreme heat we are enduring the necessity to keep weeds under control is more apparent than ever. Chief Bronson strongly recommends that everyone have at least a 10 foot defensible perimeter. Let’s work together to keep our community safe.
And again, Thank you to our wonderful volunteer fire department for all they do for our community.
