U.S. 197 reopened, all evacuation orders either downgraded or lifted

UPDATE 8/7/2025 8:04 P.M.: The Oregon Department of Transportation says U.S. 197 south of The Dalles has reopened.
The Wasco County Sheriff’s Office says the fire is in mop-up. Level Three evacuation orders have been downgraded to Level One. Level Two orders have been lifted.
THE DALLES – A wildfire south of The Dalles has caused the closure of U.S. Highway 197 and led to Level Three, Go Now evacuations.
The highway closure begins at milepost three just south of The Dalles and extends south for five miles.
The Level Three, Go Now evacuation order is from Steele Road east to U.S. 197 and extends south to Five Mile Road. The area includes the Wasco County Landfill.
Level Two, Be Ready evacuations are in place for areas to the south and east of the Level Three evacuations. East to Eightmile Road and south to Japanese Hollow Road.
