BAKER CITY – (Release from the U.S. Forest Service) The Whitman Ranger District is re-initiating scoping on the Huckleberry Defensible Fuels Profile Zone (DFPZ) Project.

The project lies in Baker County, OR, on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, Whitman Ranger District. It is located West of Baker City and East of Whitney. Access is by National Forest System Roads (NFSR) 1100, 1075, 1170, 1080, 1090, and State Hwy 7.
This proposal includes a combination of commercial harvest, noncommercial thinning, and prescribed burning to improve forest health and create defensible space along major system roads and areas of Wildland Urban Interface.
The public is encouraged to study the proposal and get involved in the planning process by providing comments and suggestions. Written comments must be submitted by June 24, 2024, for consideration in our planning efforts. Information on how and where to comment can be found at the website listed above.
