EASTERN OREGON– (Information from the Secretary of State’s office) September is National Voter Registration Day. Eligible voters may register while registered voters can update any necessary information. To prepare Oregonians for this day of democratic participation, the Oregon Secretary of State’s office has provided various resources and links.
Eligible voters may register at Oregonvotes.gov/register. To be eligible to register in the state of Oregon, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Oregon and at least 16 years old. Those younger than 18 who choose to register will not receive a ballot until an election occurs on or after they have turned 18.
To register, a person will need a driver’s license, permit or Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division (DMV) issued ID card. Those who do not have a license, permit or ID card may still use the online voter registration application. In case of online registration without ID, all information entered will be included on a voter registration card PDF that will need to be printed, signed and delivered to their county elections office to complete registration. Alternatively, registrants may complete a Voter Registration form and return it to their county elections office.
All new registrants must submit their online registration by 11:59:59 p.m. on the 21st calendar day before the corresponding election.
Those who are already registered to vote may use “My Vote Now” at Oregonvotes.gov/MyVote to check their registration and voter status, review and update information, check the status of their ballot, find contact information for their county elections office and elected officials and find ballot drop locations. The Oregon Secretary of State’s office recommends updating voter information for those who have changed names, mailing address or wish to change their party affiliation.
