What comes next with the Pendleton homeless case?

PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council turned down a settlement offer by the Oregon Law Center of Portland and the five homeless people it is representing in a court challenge of the city’s resting ordinance.

City Manager Robb Corbett says he’s learned that the city will be in court on Aug. 29 as the plaintiffs file a request for a stay of the ordinance in question. He talked to Elkhorn Media Group about what a stay would mean if it’s granted.

“What that would mean is that the city doesn’t have the ability to be able to enforce the camping ordinance for a period of time,” he said. “In talking with the attorney, there are things that we’ll do to try to circumvent that.”
