West Nile Cases Continue to Grow in Baker County, Officials Urge Everyone to Protect Against Mosquito Bites

BAKER CITY — West Nile virus continues to be detected in mosquitoes in Baker County. Five more samples from various trap sites tested positive for the virus.

Baker Valley Vector Control District would like to encourage everyone to protect themselves from mosquito bites. Follow these tips to protect yourselves against mosquitoes:

  •  Eliminate sources of standing water that are a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  •  Protect yourself by using mosquito repellents containing DEET, oil of lemon eucalyptus or Picaridin, and follow the directions on the container.
  •  Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants in mosquito-infested areas.
  •  Make sure screen doors and windows are in good repair and fit tightly.
  • Consult your health care provider if you have flu-like symptoms.
