PENDLETON – A cold front met a warm front, and the result was the weekend’s high winds. The National Weather Service reports that winds aloft were in the 150 miles per hour range in the upper atmosphere.
“That’s when the winds really hit, just prior to the cold frontal passage,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Camden Plunkett said. “Strong winds mixed down from aloft and we had some pretty widespread wind gusts.”
The winds have calmed down, but now it’s the thermometer’s turn to wreak havoc. Plunkett said forecasters are predicting that Tuesday night’s low temperatures will be in the low 20s. After that, overnight lows will be in the teens. It also won’t warm up much during the day.
“It could be in the 30s, perhaps low 40s,” he said. The National Weather Service says that people may have trouble acclimating to the sudden change.
Experts advise limiting exposure to the cold, taking breaks to warm up, and making sure to load up the car with warm clothing in case of a breakdown.
