ARLINGTON – A Wednesday car chase along I-84 spanned over 30 miles and two counties before coming to an end in the Columbia River.
According to a release from the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:00 am The Dalles Police Department contacted Gilliam County sheriffs about a wanted felony subject who may be operating a stolen vehicle in the Arlington area. The vehicle was located at City Park in Arlington, and the deputy with emergency lights activated observed the wanted subject approach and enter the vehicle. The deputy gave the subject commands to comply, which they did not.
The suspect eluded the deputy and began traveling eastbound on I-84. As the chase approached the Gilliam/Morrow county line the pursuit had to be discontinued because the suspects driving was endangering other motorists.
Shortly after the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office, Boardman Police Department and Oregon State Police joined the pursuit. Stop sticks were deployed at mile marker 171 near the Patterson Ferry Rd. exit, the suspect then exited the interstate and continued north on Patterson Ferry Rd. The pursuit continued until the suspect crashed in the Columbia River.
Kyle Frizzell-McIntyre, 32, of The Dalles is currently the Umatilla County Jail on charges of felony unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempt to elude/flee, misdemeanor reckless driving as well as being held for the charges the suspect was already wanted for in The Dalles.
