Baker City – (Release from the Powder Basin Watershed Council) Hello Friends of the PBWC,

Thank you all who attended our May 12th Partners Meeting. We heard a great presentation by Levi Old with Trout Unlimited on “The River is the Floodplain” and got to hear from many of you about what is happening in our watershed to meet the needs of the people and environment.

We are excited to bring you another speaker on August 3rd, 6:00 p.m. at the Baker City Library. Carol Evans, retired BLM biologist, will be talking about how changes in livestock grazing management in northeastern Nevada led to riparian plant growth, subsequent colonization of these areas by beaver and ultimately, increases in vegetative productivity and water storage at a landscape level. Although recovery of these managed watersheds is still a story in progress, the events that have unfolded over the past three decades illustrate the power and potential of collaborative livestock grazing management for riparian recovery.

As with our previous partners meeting, following the presentation we will have a time for partners to share updates on watershed happenings.

See you there!
