Watermelon Slam Pickleball Tournament is in the works

HERMISTON – Pickleball players of all skill levels are invited to play in the inaugural Watermelon Slam Pickleball Tournament at the Good Shepherd Pickleball Complex in Hermiston. The first major tournament to be held in Hermiston is hosted by the Hermiston Rotary Club and Good Shepherd Health Services.

“The Hermiston Rotary Club has been thrilled to see the game of pickleball grow so quickly in Hermiston,” Rotary President-elect Daniel Wattenburger said. “Our goal is a tournament that’s accessible and enjoyable for everyone. We greatly appreciate the help of Good Shepherd, the 541 Pickleball Club and the city to help us make this tournament a reality.”

Registration is $65 per player and includes an official tournament T-shirt, breakfast and lunch, and medals for first, second, and third place teams in each of the three skill levels. Proceeds will support ShelterBox, a global disaster relief organization that provides emergency shelter and essential supplies to families displaced by natural disasters and conflicts.

ShelterBox was started and continues to be supported by Rotary International and the Hermiston Rotary Club. Included in that support was the Cascadia disaster training event held near Echo.
