Water year precipitation in John Day was over 5″ below normal

According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at John Day averaged slightly colder than normal during the month of October.

       The average temperature was 47.8 degrees which was 1.6 degrees below normal. High Temperatures averaged 61.5 degrees, which was 3.9 degrees below normal. The highest was 77 degrees on the 3rd. Low temperatures averaged 34.1 degrees, which was 0.7 degrees above normal. The lowest was 20 degrees, on the 12th.

       There were 11 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

       Precipitation totaled 1.10 inches during October, which was 0.11 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 10 days with the heaviest, 0.61 inches reported on the 23rd.

       Precipitation this year has reached 5.1 inches, which is 5.48 inches below normal.

       The outlook for November from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for near to above normal temperatures and above normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day fall from 57.0 degrees at the start of November to 44.0 degrees at the end of November. Normal lows fall from 31.0 degrees to 25.0 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 1.35 inches.
