NORTH POWDER – (Information provided by the City of North Powder) The North Powder City Council met in a special session recently at the old fire station discussing the upcoming construction of the Wastewater System Improvement Project.
Brett Moore, from Anderson Perry & Associates, gave a brief explanation of the project and why it is being done. Basically, it comes down to the fact that the EPA will no longer allow us to dump treated effluent water into the river. The City of North Powder has had some issues with old and decaying distribution pipe lines that need to be replaced. In order to “get out of the river” we are going to build a wetlands/evaporation pond for effluent water. The City has been awarded a $1,991,500 Community Development Block Grant for construction of the project. Once the Environmental Assessment review process is complete and all grant contracts are signed, the City will put the project out for bid and construction will start later this year.
