UNION – (Information from the City of Union) In a recent update, City Administrator for Union Doug Wiggins confirmed that the city will be moving forward with the wastewater screen construction project. The project will commence in roughly mid-March with Union selecting the bid by Becker Construction. The city is currently working to finalize the contract. In other bid and construction news, Wiggins also noted that bidding for work on the middle building of the ranger station will open sometime this month. No specific timeline for work has been given but the city hopes to have the project complete by the end of summer 2023.
For residents planning their own construction projects, Union would like to remind you to call 811 before doing any digging. The Utility Notification Center is open at all hours and will mark any subterranean utilities. Marking is usually done in roughly 2 days after scheduling and can prevent damage to critical infrastructure and possibly injury to residents. Again, call 811 to request a marking before doing any digging.
One final reminder for Union residents concerns dogs at large. As of the recent update, the city has seen increased reports of loose dogs being reported. The city ordinance regarding dogs at large is as follows:
“It shall be unlawful for the owner or custodian of any dog to cause, permit or allow such dog to roam, run, stray or be away from the premises of such owner or custodian and to be on any public place, any public property or the private property of another within the city. An owner or custodian of a dog may take it off the owner’s or custodian’s premises provided the dog is under restraint. Any dog found roaming, running, straying, or being away from the owner or custodian’s premises and not on a leash or under control as herein provided, is hereby declared to be at large, and such dog may be seized and impounded subject to the redemption provisions of this chapter. In lieu of, or in addition to, impounding a dog, the owner or custodian may be cited by a Deputy or the Sheriff for violation of this chapter.”
Residents having issues with dogs at large may contact the sheriff’s department at 541-963-1017 to file a report with animal control.
