Washington man arrested for Burglary

BAKER COUNTY– (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) October 7, 2021, Baker County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 19351 Chandler Lane in Baker City for a report of possible theft. Upon arrival, the reporting party showed the deputy that doors on outbuildings were left open or had been opened, which was unusual. The owners of the property, Robert and Marilyn Harrison, arrived on scene and confirmed the buildings had been entered and items were missing, including an ATV and motorcycle. An office area located in one of the buildings was also left in disarray.

During the investigation, a 1997 Honda ATV was located approximately one mile west of the property. It was also discovered that deputies had contact with an individual, identified as Jarod Roland Taylor (39 yoa), the previous night, near the Harrison property. During the initial contact, he was burning a piece of cardboard in the middle of the road. Taylor told the deputy that he was riding his ATV but disabled the machine by putting diesel fuel in it. Taylor was cited for Offensive Littering and given a courtesy ride to another residence. Deputies believed that ATV had been stolen at the time of the contact but were unable to locate a victim.

On October 9th, Taylor came to the Sheriff’s Office to retrieve his identification. While there, he was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary II, Criminal Mischief III, and Criminal Trespass II for the incident at 19351 Chandler Lane. Taylor was lodged in the Baker County Jail.
