Washington considers killing wolves from Tucannon pack after livestock attacks 

OLYMPIA — Wildlife officials are considering killing one or two wolves from the Tucannon wolf pack in southeast Washington following a series of livestock attacks over the past four months.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Tuesday that staff members will provide a formal recommendation to the agency’s director within days.

Investigators confirmed three calf mortalities and five probable injuries impacting three separate livestock producers in Asotin and Garfield counties. The most recent attack occurred Sunday.

Officials noted that all three affected ranchers had implemented proactive, non-lethal deterrents. Those measures included delaying calf turnouts until the livestock weighed over 200 pounds, maintaining a daily human presence, and employing range riders to monitor the herds.
