Warrant suspect found crying for help heard from hot air balloon

WALLA WALLA – A Walla Walla hot air balloon pilot and crew had an experience Friday in Walla Walla they won’t soon forget.

Walla Walla police reported that the balloon’s crew heard someone calling from the ground below as they flew over the area of Myra Road and Mill Creek.

The pilot called 911 and officers located Jacob J. Richards, 52, in the brush. Richards walked out under his own power and was transported to the local hospital.

WWPD said Richards had a Washington State Department of Corrections’ warrant. DOC took him into custody and handled the arrest.
