LA GRANDE – The new location of the Union County Warming Station on Third Street could be ready for overnight guests on November 15th, according to Acting Chair, Audrey Smith. There have been several updates to the building to comply with the rules and regulations. Currently, the building is 95 percent complete and are waiting on the final approval for an occupancy permit. The staff will begin to accept donations as the opening nears.
The Warming Station team is currently working on reviewing and revising our current volunteer policies and training guidelines to comply with the state/federal rules amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Our most important goal is to create a safe space for our guests and volunteers and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure this is the case prior to opening for the season. Training sessions will be held virtually and mandatory for all volunteers, regardless of past volunteer status.
Last season the project was put on hold, which gave the contractors more time to make the necessary improvements.
