ENTERPRISE — As part of National Rural Health Day, Wallowa Memorial Hospital announced it has been recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes and Patient Perspectives. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and/or Patient Perspective.
“This recognition is truly an honor and a reflection of our hardworking team’s dedication to this community. Receiving recognition in two of the three areas Chartis measures is no easy task. Wallowa County should feel proud of the fact that our local hospital performs above 75% of other rural hospitals nationwide in both Outcomes (results from care and treatments patients have received) and Patient Perspectives (how the patient perceives care). “says Dan Grigg, CEO of Wallowa Memorial.
When Wallowa County Health Care District Chairman of the Board, Nick Lunde heard about the awards he remarked “I’m not surprised, but so grateful to all who are mission driven to deliver the very best possible care for our community, fully recognizing the humanity in everyone. Every job in healthcare is difficult and exacting work. We have much to be thankful for here in Wallowa County and our high quality healthcare is at the top of my list!”
The Performance Leadership Awards are based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance. INDEX data is relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health around the country to measure and monitor performance across several areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
“Wherever we go in rural America, we witness first-hand the commitment, determination, and compassion with which rural hospitals serve their communities. Rural healthcare truly is mission-driven,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader, The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “This National Rural Health Day, let us recognize the efforts of this year’s Performance Leadership Award winners and all those driven to deliver high quality care throughout rural communities.”
